Valentine Card

Hey there everyone! Sorry it has been a couple days since my last post. Hope everyone had a good Monday! Mine started out with on Sunday night hearing a giant crash and running downstairs to see that our bathroom mirror took a dive off the wall and shattered everywhere! Luckily no animals were hurt in the process because the dog usually sleep there! Of course as we started picking up the many shards I said to Hubby maybe I should keep some of these to use to make something. Then I got that look of seriously. He did eventaully say that could be cool but we both decided at that time of night was no time to start trying to save pieces. So now we have this giant unpainted white area and no mirror to get ready with in the mornings so I have moved my morning grooming to the hall bathroom until we get a replacement mirror!

Now onto my recent card creation. I had this cute idea for a Valentines day card and decided to run with it and see how it worked out. I thought it would be cute to have the front of the card have some boxes that opened up so that you could have a little saying on the front that was a surprise until they opened up each box. I decided to but out a different shaped heart for each box. I used my Cameo to make the entire card. First I created the size I wanted and then I had to come up with how I wanted the boxes to look and make sure they were only cut on three sides and perforated on one so that they could be opened. It actually came out really well when I cut it on the Cameo. It was a little hard at first to fold the card in half because there wasn’t much card boarder left between the fold and the boxes that I made but in the end it worked out well.

Then I got four different shaped hearts that I thought complimented each other well and made them to be cut to fit on top of the boxes. After I cut them out I discovered that when one was cut out it made a really cool heart from the inside of it and so I ended up using that as my fourth heart instead of the one I had intended to use. After those were cut I glued them to the boxes and found a pretty yellow paper to put behind the boxes so that when you opened them you could see the different colored paper and the words. I decided on the phrase “Forever and For Always”, I liked it because it was the perfect fit of four words and I just think that is a cute Valentines saying. So I cut those out and put them under each box. Then I cut out “Happy Valentines Day!” and put that on the upper flap of the card. I picked here because I thought it looked better on the yellow and because it gives them a lot of room if they want to write a longer message.

I thought all in all the idea came out real well. Hubby was pretty impressed with it! I like the idea because I can use different sayings inside the card and also I could use it for different themed cards, it doesn’t just have to be Valentines day. I hope you all think the card is cute and come back and read some more posts! Have a great evening!

Baby Shower Card

Happy Sunday everyone! I have been in the card making mood ever since I got my new Cameo because it is so easy to create what I want and I can pick the size of the card that I want to make. I found some very cute embellishment stickers at the dollar store (yes I love going there you always find great stuff for $1) and they were baby themed and it gave me an idea for a cute baby shower card. I tried to keep it as gender neutral as possible but in my head green and yellow are not totally gender neutral, but that is just my opinion. I first picked the card size I wanted and cut it out on the cameo and made sure to perforate it so that I could fold it. Then I picked the moon embellishment to use on this card because it went with my saying and then I decided that a nice row of stars on the sign would complement it well. Then I put a little saying on the inside of the card. All of the words and the stars were made on the Cameo the only thing that was not handmade was the moon sticker. I thought it came out pretty well, so I am happy with it.

Ant Birthday Cupcakes

So besides being a crafter I am also a baker, I especially love making cupcakes! We drove up to Denver for my nephews 1st birthday so I offered to make some birthday cupcakes for them to have at his birthday party. The theme was bugs, it was so cute! First my husband and I painted him a couple of wooden bugs and a wooden #1 to go on his present, I painted a dragonfly  and the #1 and Hubby painted a bumble bee. You can see from the picture I went with the more just paint it pretty and Hubby got all creative and created like a Mario bee! What was funny about this was that I hadn’t talked to my sister-in-law before hand about what I was doing and low and behold the little cake she had ordered for him had a dragonfly and a bumble bee on it! Then it got even weirder the #1 I painted was blue with red polkadots and the #1 candle she had bought him was blue with green polka dots! It was like we were connected!

I had a hard time at first figuring out how to make the ants fit on the cupcakes because I do a special like rose/flower type icing and I didn’t want to ruin it. Also, we weren’t sure if everyone would like the chocolate on theirs so I did some with and some without the ants. At first I tried to use icing for the legs on the ants but it wasn’t working so my brother had a good idea of using chocolate sprinkles so I used those as the legs and then I used chocolate chips as the bodies. I think they turned out pretty good and they were a hit because they were all gone at the end of the party!

Thank You Card

Hey y’all! So the Hubby and I just returned last week from a trip to Washington D.C. to visit Hubby’s Dad. We were fortunate enough that his Dad had a work partner that owned a Bed and Breakfast so we got to stay there for free! It was an amazing place to stay! She was a very crafty and thrifty person herself! It definitely gave me some inspiration! Anyway we ended up buying her some gifts from our hometown so that we could thank her for the hospitality. I had recently acquired the Silhouette Cameo and decided that my first project would be to create a thank you card for her. Surprisingly it wasn’t very hard to create I was very happy! I had a Wishblade and it was just not working right with the Mac computer and it wouldn’t but and all kinds of problems so I love my Cameo! I decided to make it simple but elegant, at least I think it is. I found a fun frilly design and used it to be a shape that was cut out on the main part of the card and then when I placed the second color behind it, it would show through the design. I then used the piece that was cut out to decorate the inside of the card and give it a little design. I also found a great font, Pacifico, and used that to make the words “Thank You”. Anyway I was pretty proud of my card because I did it really fast and I thought it came out good. Hubby liked it as well.

Flower Vase

Hey there everyone! It is time for my first post…whose excited?! I am!

Since we have moved into our house (almost 2 years ago) I have been meaning to find some vases or baskets of some kind to put some fake flowers in to decorate our house with. Now I am all for real flowers, I love when Hubby brings home some pretty flowers for me to have. But let’s face it they only survive so long, no matter how diligently you water them. And yes I do water them every night, even though Hubby says that I just eventually kill all the flowers. Back to the project…So my Mom was cleaning some stuff around her house and she found this pink fiesta type vase and she asked if I wanted it, I said yes.

At first I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it and then I thought hey that could look cute with some fake flowers in it and I could put that in the bathroom by the tub so that when I take a bath I have something pretty to look at. So I happened to be at Michaels (a very dangerous store for me to go into, because I will buy EVERYTHING!) and they had their flowers for 50% off so I thought why not grab a couple and see how they look. So I found me three pretty flowers that I thought would look good in the vase, a purple, red, and yellowish white one.

The Flowers

I first tried to cut the stems down with some regular scissors not knowing that they had some wire in them so off I went into Hubby’s office, where he is working on making his own Quad Copter or something and found myself a better cutting tool. It took some grunting on my part and the clasping of both hands on it but I finally got the flowers cut the the length that I wanted them to. I must say I am pretty happy with the finished product.

I know it isn’t something huge, but since I have been trying to do this for almost 2 years now it was a pretty big deal for me. Especially since I have the habit of coming up with tons of ideas and never doing them. Hubby was pretty impressed with the flowers and I think he wants me to put them somewhere they can be seen more instead of just by the tub where I am usually the only one who sees them.

I hope you enjoyed my first post and that I get some regular readers/followers. Please comment!
